Portfolio and Art Show

At the 4th Annual Writers and Illustrators Conference

Please join us and display your work. Best in Show is judged by Stephanie Pitts, editor at GP Putnam's Sons, imprint of Young Penguin ReadersThough she will be judging best portfolio for children/teen book art, we are happy to display art appropriate for any age book or book cover.

The Portfolio and Art Showcase is a HUGE opportunity for Alaskan illustrators to get their work in front of editors, agents, and authors looking for an illustrator. There will be about 140 people at the conference, some who will be self-publishing and need illustrators. I get questions about how to find an illustrator a lot. One of our entrants last year was commissioned to illustrate a picture book!

You need not be registered for the conference to enter, and if you are outside the Anchorage-MatSu-Valley-Girdwood area, and are a SCBWI member, you can even send us your portfolio and we will enter it for you. If you are not a member, you can still enter, but you must drop it off yourself.

When and where do you drop it off? BP Energy Center, Anchorage, AK. It would be preferable if you could drop it off on Friday, between 8:30 AM-6:00 PM–because we will be having a free event open to the public that evening and we'd like to have a great art show happening, too. But if you need to bring it Saturday morning between 7:45-8:15 AM, that works too.

You may also enter one (1) piece of art, provided you bring a way to display it such as a table or floor easel. If you are a publilshed author, you may also display one-two of your books.

Register below (it's free!) so we can plan for the number of tables needed.

We would appreciate if you'd let us know by August 31st so we know how many tables we will need. But you can register for the event up until September 14. I really hope you are going to show your work. I'd hate for you to miss out.

How do you MAIL your portfolio to us? email Remember, this is open to to SCBWI members who live outside the Anchorage area! Or if you are here, but really can't make it to deliver your portfolio, email me the reason why, and we can work something out. (If you're not a SCBWI member, you can display your work but you must drop it off and pick it up.) If you choose to mail your work, please also email to let us know. We will then send you instructions on how to mail your work.

Note: We wil do our best to watch over the art show, but damagaes or loss may occur and is beyond our control. By entering your portfolio or art in the show, you are agreeing to not hold SCBWI, AWG, or the BP Center responsible or liable for damage or loss of your portfolio, art, or books.
