What is Zoom?
Zoom is a service to hold online meetings.
As a participant, you’ll be able to see and hear the guest speaker and look at any slides she presents. You can also ask questions via chat, and sometimes audio if your computer is “unmuted” by the speaker or host. It’s a great way to hold webinars.
Prepare to Zoom!
If you haven’t used Zoom before, you must download it on your computer or device for free by clicking this link (or by copying and pasting this URL into your search bar): https://zoom.us/support/download
Do this the day—or even a week—before the webinar so you can test your speakers and system to make sure they work with the service. We will not be able to troubleshoot with you moments before a scheduled webinar. Join a test meeting to make sure everything is working by going to https://zoom.us/test.
If you’ve used Zoom in the past but not recently, it’s a good idea to log on and run a test. You may need to update your software, or something may have changed.
When it’s Time to Zoom
Join your Zoom meeting or webinar by clicking the link in the email invite we’ll send you. It’s always a good idea to get on your computer or device and join 15–30 minutes earlier than the scheduled time in case there are technical difficulties. The event moderator will log on about 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.

We look forward to seeing you at an AK SCBWI webinar soon!
