September

September 12th “Imagination Is Not Enough” with author B. A. Binns  (12-1:30 pm AK time)

REGISTRATION TO START IN LATE SUMMER

“I can use my imagination” authors often say when beginning a new story. Imagination is a powerful tool, but its value is often limited when writing about unfamiliar people and cultures. Imagination alone has limitations that often overlooks culturally relevant information, or, worse still, gets things factually incorrect.  Webinar attendees will explore ways to meet the needs of their readers when writing cross-culturally. We will dive into issues like motivation, character, backstory, the difference between culture appreciation and appropriation,  and some solutions to the types of issues authors may encounter while performing culturally relevant research. Attendees will also emerge  with strategies for dealing with criticism.
